RIP Dock Ellis, probably the only man ever to throw a no-hitter in the major leagues while tripping balls.

He also later cleaned up and ran a drug treatment facility. Dock was a total bad-ass.

Now how exactly did you become a Pirates fan?

Heh. Dock was a little before my time, but I was seven years old in '79, the last time the Pirates won the series. I visited my aunt and uncle in Michigan that summer, and I got to see the Pirates play the Cubs on WGN several times. I guess the black-and-gold polyester look was pretty cool to my young eyes, so I claimed the Pirates as my team. It was great getting to see them win the World Series in my first year as a baseball fan. It's been a long 29 (!) years since, but I'm nothing if not loyal.

That's really great. The Pirates are more of a regional flavor. Like you grow up there and you love the Pirates. The Yankee, Red Sox, Dodgers, Cubs... Those are more often the teams that people learn to love no matter where they are. I just wondered.
