I don't think I've mentioned it on here before, but people who adorn their cars with those stickers that depict Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes, not John (though that could be kinda cool)) peeing on Ford or Chevy logos or racecar-driver numbers should be strung up by the fuckin' gonads. Calvin creator Bill Watterson has never licensed any Calvin and Hobbes merchandise, and these stickers are just disrespectful to his wishes. Furthermore, the stickers don't have anything to do with Calvin's character. Calvin isn't a rude, crude Dennis the Menace with an attitude who goes around pissing on things; he's an introspective intellectual who can't be bothered with such bullshit as car culture.
Even worse, though, are the other Calvin ripoff stickers I've been seeing that feature him kneeling in front of this huge-ass cross and praying. 'Scuse me while I puke and die. Goddamn, you'd think that the wealth of iconography that 2,000 years of Christanity have produced would be enough, but nooooooo. And again, it's not in keeping with Calvin's character -- he's an agnostic at best.
Sorry, that's just been bothering me for a while, and I needed to get it out. :)

Date: 2001-03-29 09:26 pm (UTC)Yeah, the thing about the hotrod Civics and whatnot reminds me of this time I was getting gas and saw some guy in a souped-up Gremlin -- huge wheels and all that. When he left the parking lot, he made it a point to just peel out like mad -- he was just sitting there burning off pounds and pounds of tire. I thought, hey, that's pretty impressive -- but it's still a freaking GREMLIN!
