Oh, dear. It's definitely Freak Day. Every single thing about the day confirms it -- especially the fact that I didn't realize what was going on until just a minute ago. And it's not just me. That's another requirement of Freak Day: there has to be widespread uneasiness or downright fear. I just told the managing editor about the concept of Freak Day, and I was a little apprehensive. I was afraid that she was going to tell me, "You're the only freak. Now get over it." But no. In fact, she said that she had been having weird dreams when she got up this morning and that she's had this vague but undeniable feeling that something was wrong all day today. "Yes," she said. "It must be Freak Day."

Man, if you think I'm going out and volunteering to be arrested today, you're out of your ever-lovin' mind. Even a public-disturbance citation is more than I'm down for. Besides, I don't trust any of the people involved enough to feel sure that this is all going to happen as planned.

It is kind of exciting to witness civil unrest, however minor. On one corner of the New Haven Green, people will be blocking traffic (and probably getting maced), while on the opposite corner homeless people are camping out and protesting the city's decision to close down a shelter.
