I'm listening to the Jesus Lizard's Goat today and loving the hell out of it. For some reason I never listened to the other Jesus Lizard stuff very much, but god damn, Goat is good. It's one of those rare albums that makes you want to kill someone and shake your lilywhite ass all at the same time. Assuming you have a lilywhite ass, that is, and I do. The first five songs all make me say, "Holy shit, this is the best song on the album. Oh, wait, here's the next one -- I forgot about that one! THIS is the best song on the album!" I like that kind of record.

I'm kicking ass at work this week, getting a lot done. It feels so good to get some of this stuff off my desk. The past couple of weeks haven't been very productive at all; I've just been treading water and trying not to drown. My boss told me yesterday that I was doing such a great job and that she liked the way I fit into the department. That was very good to hear because I had been kind of worried that she thought I'd been fucking up. Not fucking up exactly, but maybe not moving quickly enough.

update: wow, it's more than the first five songs -- it's the whole thing!

Head is my favorite JL album. (At least it used to be, I haven't listened in a while.) If you haven't already, check out their live album, Show. They do a cover of Wheelchair Epidemic, plus there's a bunch of material from their EPs.

Cool, I'll check those out. I actually think I have the live one, but somehow I'm not sure I've listened to it. (I think I got it one day when I was finding all kinds of good stuff in the used bin, and I inevitably forget to listen to something when that happens.)

David Yow's comments between songs are pretty hilarious. At one point, it sounds like he's about to go into the audience and kill someone. Hee.

Wasn't there a record producer in the '80s named Steve Lillywhite?

yeah, the jesus lizard is a fucking amazing band - but that's the ONE album of theirs that I've never owned. i know several of the songs from the "show" live album though. duane denison, their guitarist, has been a huge influence on me - the guy has a degree in jazz guitar, oddly enough.

Oh yeah, you gotta get that one. That makes sense about their guitarist -- they're so chaotic but so precise at the same time.

Oh yeah, I think so! I'm vaguely remembering a pop metal connection. Not that I know anything about pop metal, of course. ;)
