So yeah, I didn't even come close to leaving today. I worked until almost noon and then took off so I wouldn't have to hang around for the holiday party. It's not that I didn't want to be here for it--there's nothing like watching a bunch of book nerds get drunk--but I just had too much shit to do. So I headed home and did a few things there, then went out and got a haircut and an oil change. (That sounds really strange.) And now I'm out here working on these two book releases that I have to get done.
And I still ain't packed--but I don't imagine that will take long. I always spend more time selecting CDs for the drive than I do picking out clothes.
I've always hated haircuts, but I REALLY hate them now that I have to see gray hair falling in my lap. When my hair is long I don't notice it that much, but it really shows up when it's short. Maybe I can put on a hunting cap and go for the boyish but prematurely gray Holden Caulfield look. With my luck, I'd probably end up looking more like Ignatius J. Reilly.
God HELL. I was going to put a link to "Ignatius J. Reilley," so I searched Yahoo! and found that one of my pages came up first. Hmmm, that's weird, I thought, and started poking around only to find that I'VE BEEN SPELLING THE NAME WRONG ALL THESE YEARS. It's O'Reilly, not O'Reilley. How did that happen? You have to understand, this isn't like misspelling Raskolnikov--this is IGNATIUS. I've read that book at least a dozen times, and I tend to have a photographic memory when it comes to names I've seen a lot. I hope I didn't do that in the Confederacy paper I wrote in grad school.
Why am I babbling on about this? Oh yeah, because I'm an idiot.
update: It's Joanne O'Reilley's fault. She's a girl I worked with in Virginia several years ago. If she hadn't spelled her name that way, I never would have made that mistake. She'll burn. OK, back to work.
