May. 11th, 2003 03:29 pmSo many moms to think about today! Seems like there are babies all over the place. Two women I work with have just had babies. The fantabulous
missjustine has a new Iggy.
faerieface and
stoopideinstein are expecting. My best friend Wes just learned that his wife is pregnant. And I just checked my dear friend Lisa's site to find that she delivered a nine-pound Mary Imogen on Tuesday!
Hats off to all you moms and moms-to-be today!
I talked with Mom and Grandmother today. Sounds like they're having a good weekend. I'm glad they can be together today. I told Mom what I'm thinking about moving to New York, and of course she's totally supportive. My mom kicks so much ass, she should be in detention.
So yeah--the job thing. I just found out that there's an assistant editor opening at the imprint where I interviewed back in Aug. '01. For a couple of reasons, that job didn't work out, but CPC diva told me that he was very impressed and wanted me at the imprint. I didn't end up pursuing that, but here's another opportunity! So I'm definitely going to check it out.
It's weird to think about moving again. Scary but exciting. These past two years have been so unusual for me; I've always resisted change, and now I'm seeking it out.
In other news, I just scored the newly released PC version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City from alt.binaries.cd.image.games. (Oops, I guess it won't be officially released until Wednesday.) I might just quit my job and play this game for the rest of my life. Yeah.

May. 11th, 2003 11:22 pmFor the last five minutes I've been sitting here laughing like a madman at the memory of one time Fool and I were working together at Burger King and trading hits off the helium tank in the stockroom. We used to like to hit the tank and answer the drive-thru with our voices all fucked up. Anyway, one night Fool took a massive hit of helium, but instead of heading for the drive-thru he stumbled into the kitchen and fell to the ground by the broiler/steamer. He was lying there with his eyes twitching and his arms flailing about. He looked like he was having a seizure. Apparently he was conscious, though, for he said in a strangely matter-of-fact voice, "I'm shaking . . ." And I was standing there laughing so goddamn hard that my knees buckled. I've often wished that I had a videotape of that scene--Fool spazzing out on the ground and Flea about to lose his own footing because he's so overcome with laughter.
update: Oh, jebus--I almost forgot the best part. Remember, it was helium that Fool had been sucking down, so his voice was really high like Mickey Mouse. "I'm shaking . . ."
