a little light beach reading

Look at the size of this freaking book. It's bigger than any Clive Barker or Stephen King book I've ever seen. It's even bigger than those movie guides. 947 pages of thin paperback pages at a 5x8 trim size. Whose bright idea it was to combine the two previous volumes, I have no idea, but if they'd had to work on the damn thing they might have reconsidered. And this is in our trade (as opposed to scholarly) imprint! Insanity. And trust me, the pictures don't do justice to the size of this thing

good christ
look at the size o' that thing

It looks like Jack Handey's Really, Really Long Novel.

That looks like the most boring book ever.

Is your work trying to be stylishly retro with that high-tech phone and your shabby-chic pens and pencils??

We're just some young brothers trying to show that we have a lot of flavor--university press gangstas kickin' it old-school up in this mug.

You could really hurt somebody if you shanked that against their noggin.

That's what I was thinking, too. Heh--reminds me of my friend from school who would always think up violent uses for everyday objects. Whether it was a fallen branch or an oversized cofee mug, it was always, "Man, you could beat the hell outta somebody with this!"

Yep, yep... wonder where that comes from. Must be a Southernism to heft something and think, "I could put a serious hurt on somebody with this!"

how do you hold it open while you're reading? i mean, it looks heavy. and if you were to lay it flat for the first few 100 pages, it's going to be all lopsided, and the last few 100 pages will be all lopsided the other way and gravity will do its pesky bidness and keep knocking everything around.

I dunno, pardner. It was the talk of the day--everyone's blaming it on the London office. And you should see the index--the type is so small that it's almost like one of those mini-OEDs where you use the magnifying glass!
