Does anyone remember that Buckwheat rap from the mid-80s? I have no idea who did it, but it had this part where a stereotypically white guy hurled insults at Buckwheat and he responded.

"Hey Buckwheat, get a comb! Get a comb!"

"PUCK YOU, you meathead motherpucker!. Buckwheat don't need no comb! He just want to let it grow natural and feel the beat! Buckwheat don't need no wave OR no curl. Stymie tried that Geri-Curl shit and it burned out all his hair!"

They don't show The Little Rascals on TV at all anymore, do they? It's really too bad. I mean, I can certainly understand why people might be offended by them, but it seems like most kids would be able to sort out the fact that the shows are of another time and that the stereotypes don't bear any relation to reality, especially if their parents talk about it with them. But hell, what do I know about younguns? Too bad either way, I guess.

Oh, wait, I think this album has the song! I think I had about a tenth-generation copy of a tape called Street Mix that featured that song and "La-Di-Da-Di." Speaking of "La-Di-Da-Di," does anyone remember the full version of that song? The last versions I downloaded had the "It's all because of you, I'm feeling sad and blue, you went away and now my life is filled with rainy days . . ." part missing. I guess it was an old song that they didn't get permission for or something. "La-Di-Da-Di" RULED.

I was flipping channels the other night and saw a promo of a Little Rascals expose titled "The Curese of the Little Rascals." You know, since most of them ended up dying tragically.

Oh yeah, I saw that too! I think it was on E! (not that I watch E! or anything--pure coincidence, I swear). It's always haunted me that Alfalfa died in a knife fight (or so some people believe).

Oh my god, look! Is that PETEY?!?

I think La de da di is by Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick, if that helps.

Eddie Murphy's "Buckwheat Sings" is one of my favorite SNL sketches.

ooo-TAY!

Hah, I was feeling so old until you wrote about Buckwheat.

Today I heard some little whippersnapper say... "Back in 1986, blah blah blah..."

BACK IN 1986?!?!

When I say "Back in..." somewhere, it's usually the goddamn 70's! lol

Pank you, pank you!

Mine too!

Hey, I found both versions! I knew I hadn't just dreamed up that part. Of course, now my download is stalled right in the middle of it, but one day I'll have it . . .

Hell, that's nothing, some of the young whippersnappers these days were BORN in 1986! I think when I start seing LJers born in 1989 I'm going to check into the nursing home. (I'm sure they're out there, so it probably won't be long!)

BLACK spots? That is pretty messed up! Yeah, I couldn't manage to watch that movie--it would have been too painful. Even though characters like Buckwheat were offensive stereotypes, they were pretty wise too. I remember one show where Buckwheat and Spanky were in a runaway wagon that was rolling down a hill at breakneck speed. Spanky screamed, "Where are we going?" Buckwheat said, "I don't know where we headed--but we on our way!" Great line! I can certainly understand how it could be seen differently.
