Hello all you freaks and players! I hope y'all are having good holidays. I'm having a good time down here in the old stomping grounds of Mississippi. I can feel myself getting heavier by the minute. I gotta join the gym when I get back so I can get back in playing shape. Horseshoes, ya know. Anyway.

Thank dog the snow held off until I got away from CT. It's been relatively balmy down here--not 55 or 60 like it is sometimes, but definitely better than what's happening up north.

The trip down took longer than I'd hoped it would because of some car problems (nothing major), but everything has been cool since I got to MS. Actually, I'm bummed because Dad has had the flu and I've hardly gotten to see him. I've taken him food and stuff several times, but that's about it. It would have been nice if I could have gotten into his house to help him and see about him while he was sick, but . . . well, I think I've covered that territory. Anyway, we've been having a good time here at Grandmother's. Way too much good food and not much of anything else--which is just the way I like it. It's so funny when the family gets together--we don't do SHIT! I mean, we have fun talking and bullshitting, but there's never any actual activity. (Well, after the big meal, I mean--there's always a lot of frenzied preparation leading upto that.)

I think Mom and I are going to drive over to the Delta tomorrow. Starkville (where I am now and where I grew up) is on the other side of the state from the Delta, and it's a completely different world over there. I get a kick out of it because it's so funky. And Mom grew up in various towns all over the Delta. So we'll just follow our noses tomorrow and see where we end up, I guess. The best way to do the Delta is in an old pickup with no air conditioning. You get out there and suck back forty Cokes, listen to Judas Priest and Iron Maiden (a novice might suggest John Lee Hooker or Robert Johnson, but trust me on this one), and take eight rolls of kick-ass photographs. Tomorrow, however, we'll be traveling in Mom's SUV and listening to NPR, so the art might be a bit compromised. :)

So . . . fuck, it's almost time to go home. I'll probably head out from here Sunday night and sleep at Mom's place in Chattanooga, then drive the rest of the way back to New Haven on Monday. I have a ticket for the Gov't Mule show in NYC on New Year's Eve, so I'll probably drive into the city for that. I hope it's not going to be impossible to get in and out of the city on NYE. I'm sure it'll be insane, but at least the venue is uptown rather than near Times Square or something. The train would be the easiest thing, but I doubt the show would be over before the last one out--it leaves at 1:30. I dunno, we'll see.

Anyway, I owe some folks some thank-yous for Christmas gifts and greetings, and I owe everyone apologies for not sending out holiday cards! I had good intentions, I swear I did. I just don't know what happened to that month between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Cripes, that reminds me--I still have a couple of packages to send out! All will be taken care of, my droogies.

love, peace, and hair grease,
Torvald
