Feb. 25th, 2003 05:06 pmAnd about the only thing I remember from two years of high-school French is that avocat can mean either lawyer or avocado. I remember translating "Mon pere est un avocat" (or whatever it would be) as "My father is an avocado" on a test just to be stupid.
Oh yeah, and one other thing I remember from German: One time we were doing an in-class exercise that involved the German names for different sports, and the sentence I had to read included the word "skeetschiessen" (skeet shooting). But of course I pronounced it wrong. It came out "skeetscheissen," which of course translates as "skeet shitting." And not only did that psychopath Dr. Buehler (nicknamed "Little Hitler" after he became assistant dean of A&S) laugh his ass off, but he also yelled "skeetscheissen" at me whenever he saw me on campus for months after that! It haunts me to this day; I still can't talk about skeet shooting without shedding a tear for my lost innocence.
