Quick update on the weekend. Mom flew in Saturday afternoon. I picked her up at LaGuardia and we spent Saturday and Sunday nights in the city. The weather was beautiful and we had a great time. Saturday we went to the Grand Central Oyster Bar for raw oysters and soft-shell crabs (yep, I'm still rockin' the crabs) and then saw Embedded, the Tim Robbins-directed attack on the war in Iraq. It was . . . all right. Had some really good moments, but all in all, it was kind of heavy-handed. Sunday we spent most of the day checking out antiques markets in Hell's Kitchen and Chelsea. Then we were able to score tickets for Bridge and Tunnel, a kick-ass one-woman show starring Sarah Jones. Yesterday we knocked around Canal St., stopped at the Union Square market, ate at Blue Water Grill, and hit Zabar's on the way out. Good times.

I took a shitload of pictures. I really dig the one from Times Square. What was I supposed to do, not take their picture? Ach, people. Anyway, here are some more.

This guy in the Strand was AWESOME. Check his strap thingy on his glasses. It's made of dozens of rubber bands all twisted together like a little weiner package.

Wow! I need to come to New York. I really love random pictures of people. These are great. I think the last is my favorite, though.

I'm surprised they don't make even more movies in NYC with all those wacky characters. What's the deal with that '70s person (man? woman?) in the 4th pic down?

Man oh man, I love it too. I have to start spending more time there. Most of these were taken in Chelsea and Hell's Kitchen; I took a few in Times Square, but the only really good one I got was of the debate between the fundamentalists and the white dude.

Thanks!

Yes indeedy, being close to the city makes living in Connecticutland almost worth it, even for a Southerner. :)

Indeed. I'd be happy just to stand in Zabar's and sample olives all day long. =)

I dunno WHAT that dude's deal is. He's 70 years old if he's a day, and he's trying to pull off some kind of Ron Wood schtick! You should have seen his hair up close--it looked like it belonged to one of those 80-year old women with really bad dye jobs. Check these closeups. He and the orange-pants guy and the dude in the suit were having some very Important conversation about some clothes they'd found somewhere. Very strange trio.
