Aug. 26th, 2004 04:59 pmI had clear water when I went home at work today! I even ran a glass of unfiltered and held it up to a glass of filtered against the light and couldn't see any difference. Yesterday it was dark brown vs. clear. At least now I know the filter does something, though. But I still am probably gonna go w/ bottled from now on.
Also just got a reply from the water quality dude. Pretty good except for the phrase "storm event." *shudder* It also gives me something else to bitch to the landlord about.

Mr. Heller;
Thank you for your depiction of the conditions within your home; we agree this is unacceptable and are currently working around the clock to eliminate the discolored water from all of our consumer's homes.
The nature of the discoloration relates to the elevation in iron and manganese sediments within the water mains. Exactly as to how this elevation occurred remains speculative; there are several reasons being investigated, including those you had mentioned involving Saturday's storm event. Other, more human-related causes, are also being looked into (inadvertent human involvement, not intentional).
In terms of a resolution, we are aggressively flushing the distribution system seeking to displace the discolored water. We know the water we are producing and bringing into the system is clean. We are making headway in Westville according to customer contacts. As to exactly when this will be a past event is unknown; our original estimate of Monday afternoon was grossly inaccurate, but based on conditions as we knew them at the time.
Please keep us informed as to your observations, especially as they relate to the cold water. We do know that your building does have a history of hot water plumbing related discolored water complaints; this is out of our hands.
