Even funnier. At Berklee, no one graduates, especially the people that go on to do interesting things in the music world. Here are a few examples:

Bruce Hornsby '82
Melissa Etheridge '86
Steve Vai '81

What this means is that these three people (actual alums but I don't know the actual years) attended Berklee for one half of a semester in the year specified. I would figure that the examples you are referring to are the years of graduation.
