OK, so I've been having problems with my home desktop for several months now. I even bought a zippy new bare-bones system cuz I was due for one, and transferred a lot of the old hardware to the new machine. And I STILL was getting crazy crashes and dumb stuff happening. I could NOT figure out what the deal was.

I now have reason to believe it was the fucking MOUSE. I don't know how; I don't know why. But that's how it looks.

Computers are gay.

Oh yeah, a few times. But last night the mouse cursor would just stop and start, and it crashed a couple of times w/ critical errors, so I changed to a ps/2 mouse and everything improved. I got a new usb trackball today, and everything's zippy as hell.

A couple weeks ago, my work computer wouldn't boot up. I had a feeling it was the el cheapo keyboard I was given. Sure enough, I was right. I think I'd be using the damn thing for maybe 2-3 weeks. Gah.

Have you tried going to the mouse manufacturers website to see if they might have updated drivers?

Yeah, it's a Kensington trackball, and I had the very latest drivers from their website. I've probably had the thing for six or seven years, so I guess I was due for a new one. I can't figure out why it would have been causing the computer to go nuts and crash--I would think it would just not work very well if it's going on the fritz--but there definitely seems to have been a correlation.

Indeed. I'm gonna start getting on the internest the old-fashioned way, with an abacus.
