I knew that book didn't ring true. I sped through it and the follow-up My Friend Leonard and thought they were good at the time, but then I started thinking, man, a lot of this just doesn't seem right. Apparently it might not be: Best-selling book by US author called a fraud

Well...if it's a work of fiction (and not an autobiography), then how is it a fraud? The author might be a big fat liar piece of poop, but the writing itself could still be good and stand up on its own. I don't know, though, as I haven't read the novels in question.

But many writers wrote under false personas. The Bronte sisters did, including Charlotte Bronte...but then again, women weren't exactly accepted as writers at the time...

Nooooo, it's presented as a memoir--it's supposed to be fact.

did you read the whole thing thing spawned the Washington Post article on the Smoking Gun? Its actually a very interesting peice. I read the first part of a Million Little Peices back when it was first released and parts rang true and parts definately didn't. I felt it was way to self-indulgent (look at what a peice of shit I am but how good I have become to be able to tell my story) to be 100% fact. I hated the book and hated Oprah for giving this guy millions basically.

Man! I had never heard of him but I caught a glimpse of him on Oprah (which I don't actually watch usually) and he seemed so stiff. I just had such a hard time buying into his story. Now I know why.

I watched the Smoking Gun dude on some show on MSNBC last night. It was fantastic how deeply discredited this guy got. I would love to be a fly on the wall in Oprah's offices the last couple of days!
