Sep. 14th, 2006 09:18 amI feel pretty decent this morning--what's up with that? It's probably because Lonzie let me sleep last night. Usually he goes into his circus routines at about 5 a.m.
It was actually kinda chilly this morning, like 60 degrees--and I was glad to see that! When I was in CT, I'd start dreading winter in about May. Seriously, as soon as it got warm, I'd be thinking, "ACK, it's going to be cold again in about six months." I can do these little winters down here no problem, though. And I've pretty much survived my first summer back in the Deep South! (It's still getting up to 90 some days, but at least it's not 100 like it was, and it's cooling off at night.) Huzzah.
Weather. Boy, that's gripping stuff, huh? Yeah, I THOUGHT so. Punk.
I've started missing New Haven a little bit--not so much actually living there, but little niceties like being able to walk to a good bookstore or any number of kick-ass Indian buffets on my lunch hour. Plus, I've been jonesing really bad for a trip to NYC, but that ain't quite as easy as it was when I was 75 miles away. Can't have everything, I guess.
OH. I've been meaning to do this forever. I have a traffic question. OK, let's say you're on a four-lane road with a median in the middle, and there are those places in the median to make turns (lefts and U-turns). At this point I will offer a visual aid and a poll behind a cut:

Yes, I drew a diagram. I'm a nerd. Get over it.
OK. Say you want to make a turn. Which part of the little median piece do you go through--the near or the far? Say you're on the right side of the highway as shown above, and you want to make a U-turn. Or a left turn. Doesn't matter. Do you go through the section marked A or B? I always go A, because that puts me on the right side of it, and we generally drive on the right side of the road in this country. But it seems like everyone else does the opposite--I guess because it's closer. Lazy bastiges. But maybe I'm wrong. I don't remember covering this in driver's ed 20 years ago.

Date: 2006-09-14 02:45 pm (UTC)I used to be the screaming, middle finger waving, road rage filled driver but now its more satisfying to silently fuck with people. for example, I have a strong hatred for people who see a LINE of traffic on the highway and drive up the breakdown lane to cut everyone off. I wait until I see someone doing that and move over so that I'm half in my lane and half in the breakdown lane. now they have NOWHERE to go, and if all goes well the person behind me doesnt let them in either. you should see the rage THAT incites in people : )

Date: 2006-09-14 05:48 pm (UTC)And, am I to understand that both A and B are designated solely to one direction at a time?
By looking at the diagram, my first thought was that maybe B was for one direction to turn and A was for the other.
If not, here is my second guess...
Maybe B is designated for U Turns and A is designated for going straight across to a joining street?
You sometime's run into that situation in Manhattan on the One Way streets.
Of course, Manhattan is a free-for-all all the way around when it comes to driving.
"Lanes? What the fuck are lanes? Just get the fuck out of my way, you fucking fuck!"
And,
"He sometime's bites my vagina... it doesn't hurt, only little pinch... "
Hmmm, great ice-breaker for a cocktail party.

Mostly when I turn, though, I wait till nothing's coming and then I do whatever I want. Shhh.
