Feb. 23rd, 2007 01:00 pmBah. I slept from about 6 p.m. to 7:30 am, minus an hour around 9:00 to eat. I woke up and found that my right ear had apparently drained a bunch of clear fluid. Either that or Lonzie had drooled in it. I prefer to think it's the former.
For the past several months, I guess since I visited there in June, I've been sort of obsessed with New Orleans and how the recovery (or lack thereof) is going. I read a lot of stuff on the web, and there's one blogger in particular I've found who does a very good job of portraying the city today: b.rox. He and his wife are rebuilding a house in a neighborhood still full of destruction. They have been very committed to staying in New Orleans, but he's written recently that the months and months of crime, widespread misery, and government incompetence are starting to add up and that they're going to give it another year and then consider leaving if the situation hasn't improved much.
Anyway. It was nice to see his post from earlier this week about Mardi Gras: "Another Day." Looks like fun, no? Check out the whole Flickr set, too. For some reason, Mardi Gras never appealed to me all that much--all the tales of crowds and drunken frat boys, I guess. But I might have to think about going next year if the city's still there. :)
