It's 54 degrees outside and about 8 degrees inside. I'm freezing my wangdoodle off.

And weird-- the top story on cnn.com right now is about the Commodore 64's 25th anniversary. I had one of those jokers. Still the baddest-ass computer ever.

we had one of those!
an actual tv screen was the monitor. and you had to type in a seemingly endless code (at least it felt like that as a kid...it took nearly all day to get it right) to get a balloon to go across the screen.
my parents still have the keyboard in the attic.

Yep! I used to get these C64 magazines that included code for games and stuff. Pages and pages of shit, and when you got done typing, they'd never work because you'd have made all kinds of errors, and you never knew where.

wow thats amazing...I totally forgot about that damn computer till you mentioned it! so many memories.

was I right about the computer screen being a tv though? cause the more I think about it, how could that have worked? but I'm 99.99% positive our little 12" doubled as the computer screen.

Oh, totally! It had a little thingy that you'd hook it up with, just like an Atari. In fact, it also used Atari joysticks, and there were a TON of games for it. Kids copied the fuck out of the games and passed them around on floppies (when they actually WERE floppy). That's really where the popularity came from, as a gaming system. But I had a modem for mine and was online with it back over twenty years ago!

oh man thats nuts!
my first taste of the internet was probably when I was like 11-12 (almost 15 years ago) and my cousin had Prodigy. I thought that was the coolest shit ever.

this is the greatest blast from the past...I almost wanna go dig through my parents attic and check the commodore out.
