Madonna and John Mellencamp have been voted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and my late, lamented band Dry Heave goes yet unrecognized. We should totally get in for "A Crop of Musk" alone--it was a brilliant bit of crossover magic that captured the zeitgeist of 1988 Starkville life among the burnouts with grace and pizzazz and je ne sais quois out the yin-yang.

Seriously, though, Madonna? She may be wonderful, groundbreaking, a master of reinventing herself, whatever the fuck she's supposed to be, but she's not rock and roll. And John Mellencamp? Grack.

I still say Halls of Fame are for sports leagues anyway, not art forms.

I like some of John's older stuff, but I've had it with that damn My Country song. Ugh. Don't even get me started on Madonna. "But I'm British, I am!" Uh, no. No, you're not.

Yeah, there are a few songs of his that I'll listen to if they come on the radio, but nothing that's particularly genius. And I'm totally with you on the "My Country" thing. It still slays me that it was sold to Chevrolet before the fucking ALBUM even came out.
