Apr. 17th, 2002 06:43 pmI love me some Iron Maiden -- their stuff through 1988's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, anyway; their next album featured a song called "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter," whereupon they lost me. Sure, they succumbed to some of heavy metal's more embarrassing cliches (check "Number of the Beast"), but they could seriously play, and they wrote a lot of interesting music. I was listening to Seventh Son in the car this evening, however, and I realized that Bruce Dickinson (he of the ill-conceived cover of Mott the Hoople's "All the Young Dudes," not he of "More cowbell!") sounds an awful lot like Katherine Hepburn. Oh well. I guess it's just another side of the multifaceted joy that is Iron Maiden.
(BTW, I never knew until I looked it up just now that David Bowie wrote "All the Young Dudes.")
