First, you steal from the rich. Then, you give to the poor.
There is no foreseeable negative consequence to this whatsoever. The rich don't realize that they can raise prices on goods and services to compensate for the tax increases, and as long as we don't mention it to them, we're golden.
Of course, if someone lets slip, the increased prices would not only re-redistribute the wealth, but it would also increase the wealth of the previously wealthy and further impoverish not only the poor, but also the middle class.
So, in effect, Obama's plan will cause the rich to get richer, the poor to get poorer and the middle class to have to pay more for everything. But the good news is that dependence on government would rise dramatically, which is a big win for liberalism.
Also: It is so strange to me that we are so diametrically opposed in so many ways despite the fact that our brains work so similarly. I've always thought that you and I were on the same wavelength--but then there are those areas where we depart. It's some kinda weird sine wave thing, but I never took enough math to really understand all that. :)
I favor many liberal positions, but few that actually make headlines or cause much controversy. That's the main reason I refuse to join political parties - because there is none that encompasses what I would consider an ideal political platform.
We're only extremely opposed on a few things, and in my case at least, rhetoric casts a big shadow.
