Ed Hardy is the new Panama Jack.

(Does anyone else remember the Panama Jack T-shirt fad of about 25 years ago? I suspect that may have been mainly a Southeastern phenomenon, but I'm not sure.)

I remember Panama Jack.

We had two local variants, 17th Street Surf Shop shirts and some other place, it was a guy's name -- Dave Smith? No, Pete Smith. Both out of Virginia Beach.

It does look gay! And I just hate that mass-marketed ROCK N ROLL UNIFORM shit. It's gueer as fuck.

There was a Saturday Night Live sketch recently where a gay character wore an Ed Hardy shirt.

I vaguely remember the Panama Jack fad. It was around the same time as the Ocean Pacific fad, I think.

I put Ed Hardy in the same category as Von Dutch. When Ed's name started popping up everywhere, I thought, "Is that the tattoo artist?! WTF is going on?" Then I found out his name was being licensed.

Yep! I thought maybe it was a thing that made it up to Mississippi from Florida, but I guess it was everywhere.

Thank you, sir, for the awesome book! I may laze around and read it today. :D Hope your holidays are going well. You rules the schools.

You're welcome, senor. Would you believe I forgot which book I had ordered? I had to look it up. Yep. Gettin' old. ;)

I remember Panama Jack. But then I grew up mostly in VA and went to college in NC.

But yeah, Ed Hardy = Panama Jack, definitely.

"I'm going to express my individuality by finding the coolest example of the brand that EVERYONE ELSE WEARS!" :D

I actually had a Panama Jack shirt. But shit, I was like 12, so that's forgivable, right?

No, it's not. lol!!

I actually don't remember this fad, should I be thankful?

Well, you're just too cool for fads, I guess. :P Yeah, you should be glad. Like most fads, it was pretty retarded!

I'm trying to think of what fads I was apart of, there's no way I made it through the 80s without fad-dom. But...we were so poor that I think I was in the 'knock-off bin of fads'.

:(

Swatch watches? Those weird little jelly bracelets?

oh! I had one swatch, but I don't think that counts if you had less than five. Did you know that there's a swatch store in Soho? WTF, really? I didn't know they still existed. I had a few jelly bracelets but promptly gave up on them, as they pulled at my skin and made me itch.

I did have a cabbage patch kid. And jelly shoes! those should count. Those shoes sucked so hard in the summer, I gotta say. Practically melted onto one's flesh.

Oh, I remember seeing a Swatch store! Seems like I may have gone in one in NYC three or four years ago. I remember they had some kind of design with rabbits fucking.

Good thing you gave up on them bracelets. THEY'RE FOR DIRTY HORES ZOMGZES

Were "jams" popular at your school? Yanno, those dumb-ass flowery shorts? I had some. :(

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL always wondered what the colors were supposed to me. HAHAHAHHAHAHA excellent.

I only had black bracelets. God, I'M SO BORING.

I would forgive you your Panama Jack shirt. I don't remember if I had one, or if it was a Jimmy Buffet shirt. Hmm. And, also, I have to reluctantly confess, I kind of like the Ed Hardy stuff. Some of it.

in Vegas every 2nd person was wearing Ed Hardy. Turns out the local outlet mall had an Ed Hardy store. It was rotten.

That totally figures, with Vegas being the capital of bad taste and all.

I wanted one of those things so badly that I all but forced my mom to buy me one that was about 400 sizes too large for me. I wore that crap to school in spite of the fact that the sleeves could have been deployed like shaolin monk kung fu whips and the hem of the thing was below my knees.
