Yeah, Aerosmith is probably more of a mad marketing and promotional machine than a serious rocking band nowadays. But last time I was in Vegas we ran into the madness at Hard Rock, and I have serious respect for them now!
It was a total mob scene on a Sat. night, I look to my right and see the bassist for Aerosmith chatting with two girls then ahead of him a mass of probably 200+ people grouped into a corner and lined all the way to the room hallway. It took about 3 minutes till I actually caught a glimpse to see Steven Tyler was the center of attention. Aparrantly they had just finshed their show and completed some press at the hotel. They could have just walked past the mob through a roped off area with their security, but instead ST spent an extra 50 minutes kissing all the girls, signing autographs, shaking hands, and taking pictures with every last person who wanted one before he made it to the hallway! It was the coolest gesture ever to see someone as big as him do that when he didn't have to. Up ahead of the mob, bellboys carted in at least 20 cases of beer and wine and lord knows what else on a huge metal cart. So even though they're old and their music isn't progressive at least they can still party like rock stars! And ST could have had ANY woman who was in that hotel, easily!
Yeah, when you're practicing for your own megasuperstardom you gotta learn from the best! What I've learned is kiss all the girls you see and eat at TGIFriday's! Oh...and buy lots of Spawn toys! We used to run into Danzig at the Comic Con with armfuls of that crap. Then you're well on your way to becoming a megastar!
Rock band? No. ROCK STARS? Yes!
