I like the people in my new department -- several good senses of humor, and there's even another guy who also wears Converse low-tops. Anyone with such stellar taste in footwear can't be all bad.

I always liked Converse, but I always wore high tops -- never really considered the low tops. Then I discovered that Hunter Thompson wears them and, slavish admirer that I am, I immediately went out and scored a pair. Been wearin' em ever since. :)

how long ago was that? the reason i ask is because i've been wearing low tops for...oh, about 8 yrs now...and i SWEAR they're not as "good" as they used to be. There's just something funky there....can't pinpoint it.

I still wear them, cuz they're cute and look wunnerful with a pair of jean shorts, t-shirt and ponytails....but if i were to go to a lotta walking place, i'd definitely wear something else.

Oh, weird -- I've been wearing them for about eight years too! Pretty sure it was sometime in '94.

Anyway, I think I know what you're talking about. My latest pair -- bought about eighteen months ago -- is weird. The toes seem sort of like they're reversed, like they've put the left toe (the top white part, I mean) on the right shoe and vice versa.

I know Converse went through some financial troubles, and I want to say I heard something about them moving their manufacturing to Asia or licensing the name to other manufacturers in Asia or something like that -- some sort of dubious way of working things out... But the last pair I looked at in the store looked pretty authentic, so who knows?

Yes!!! I've worn those shoes for so long that I'm afraid they've screwed up my feet -- shoes that actually have support don't feel comfortable!

Nope, so these days I'm wearing the Chucks less and the Birkenstocks (which are supposed to be good for your feet) more, thereby ruining my indie-rock credibility and making me look like a granola boy. I still bust out the Chucks when I want to look classy, though.

I haven't gotten THAT bad yet! I don't even understand the point of socks w/ sandals -- I mean, do you want your feet free and unconstrained, or all wrapped up? One way or the other, Moonbeam. :)
