I went to see Law of Nature at RIck's THursday night instead because they're my favorite local band. They thanked everyone for coming to see them instead, then they sang Ice Ice Baby during their show since he was in town. The whole bar sang along to that one.
Whoa, a Starkville person! Yeah, I'm sure you made the right choice of entertainment that night. It's probably a good thing that I didn't go see him. I would have heckled him unmercifully, then would have had to suffer the embarrassment of getting my ass kicked by his roadies, or worse, Ice himself. That would be just too much to live down.
We've had several has-beens play Starkville. I saw Quiet Riot at Rick's in '93 or so -- you should have seen the size of DuBrow's wig. Ace Frehley played there, too, before he got back in Kiss. Black Oak Arkansas... I'm sure there are others...
One of the DJs once read a joke list on 99.9 of "you know you're from Mississippi if..." One of them was "if half the bands that play here were at their career peak 10 or 20 years ago." I saw Kiss on their farewell tour when they played Jackson back in August.
Technically, I'm still a Columbus person for only a few more months, then I'll be back in Starkville to transfer back to MSU for the fall. A lot of my friends from my first time at MSU have graduated now or transfered elsewhere and moved away. I still have a few friends in Starkville, but I'll be glad to be back over there soon. Somehow, I find it easier to make new friends and meet new people in Starkville than in Columbus.
I found your journal through a search of interests. Hopefully the search page will be fixed someday so we can find some of the newer Mississippi people who started their journals here in the past few weeks since the search has been down.
