The photo collection that I just posted a selection from is Understanding Joshua by Charlie White. (I was thinking "Educating Dwight." Oh well, I was sort of almost close.) When I was doing the magazine workshop at the publishing course last summer, my group bought a bunch of freaky art magazines to give us inspiration for our own freaky art magazine. One day I walked into the incense- and mildew-ridden ZHI office to find my colleagues sitting around the table and looking pale, sick, and disturbed. (Sort of like Joshua.) I asked what was wrong, and someone threw me one of the freaky art magazines and told me to look on page 32, where there was a feature on Understanding Joshua. I looked at the selections in abject horror for about fifteen seconds, then burst out in laughter. I was killing myself laughing, and then of course everyone else was looking at me in abject horror.

Oh, wow -- Charlie White has a book out. I have to buy this -- if for no other reason than to freak people out when they pick it up off my coffee table. That's what Art is for, baby.

... and if that is what the artist thinks he looks like inside, he is pretty disturbed. He needs some Prozac. IV.

How does he see this creepy earless thing as the manifestation of vulnerability in a man? Sad. Sad.

More Prozac.

Yeah -- I have to admit, I don't really understand high art like this either. ;)

*snirk*

I used to have a velvet painting in my living room. It was a Viking riding in a sled pulled by polar bears across the snow. You know how those Mexicans mix their metaphors.
