I'm having the damnedest time keeping my apartment from degenerating into total squalor these days. I fear that, in fact, the place has indeed achieved squalorhood several times during the past week. Gotta get on that this weekend.

I couldn't stand it -- I had to break my tradition of not housecleaning on weeknights and knock out some of this squalor.

I was just thinking -- if I stopped eating food, drinking fluids, and smoking cigarettes, there would be a lot less mess around here.

But there would still be clothes thrown everywhere. And stacks of CDs and video tapes falling all over the place and guitars on all the chairs and sofas and fucking BOOKS and magazines like you wouldn't believe.

Sometimes I think that it would be cool just to get rid of all my stuff and live a very bare-bones existence. But if I ever tried to do that, I'd be like Steve Martin in The Jerk:

Well I'm gonna go then! And I don't need any of this! I don't need this stuff. [pushes all of the letters off the desk] And I don't need you. I don't need anything except this [picks up the ashtray] and that's it and that's the only thing I need, is this. I don't need this or this. Just this ashtray.
