Apr. 6th, 2004 02:56 pmIf anyone's interested in downloading live recordings, you should check out Sharing the Groove, where you can grab BitTorrents of full shows in lossless SHN and FLAC formats. You need to register (for free) and then visit the forum to get at the goods. To download, you need a BitTorrent client. For converting SHN files to WAV so you can burn them to disc, I recommend mkwACT. For FLAC, try this. These files are way bigger than MP3s, so it's really only practical with a broadband connection.
As with most live music trading communities, you see a lot of jambands there, but I'm seeing a lot more diversity recently. Today I see shows available from 7 Seconds, Peter Gabriel, White Stripes, My Bloody Valentine, Dead Boys, Triumph--and not a single Phish show! Rawk.
Oh, and BTW, this is legal. It's all stuff that hasn't been officially released, so you don't have to worry about getting hunted down by fucking Jay Roth of the RIAA like I did. *seethes*
