wickedfleaSo... I'm running out of stuff to do that will help me avoid writing these papers. One's due Monday night, and the other the next Monday. In the past couple of days I've cleaned out my car (a rare occurrence), had a lunch date with a cool chick I know (an exceedingly rare occurrence), and generally futzed around. Maybe I'll start organizing my sock drawer soon. Or perhaps I'll just throw a tantrum -- I could just about go for an arm-flailing "I don't want to do this" whining fit right about now. OK, not really.
Yesterday, I drove to Oxford to go to the Ole Miss library. Their library is so much better than ours, for the humanities anyway. I'm sure our library has all the issues of Bovine World and Popular Poultry, but it sure isn't worth a fuck for trying to get critical articles on literature. That's what I get for settling for Hometown U. Oh well, I'm outta here soon.
I'm not too motivated to finish this degree anyway. I only have one more class to take after this semester, but I also still have to pass the comprehensive exam, and I really can't envision ever being prepared for that. Moreover, I can't imagine what I'd ever NEED a masters in English for, particularly since I don't want to teach. I mean, it would be nice to finish what I started, but I've had a good and productive time in grad school regardless of whether I get a degree -- I've done some things that have helped me get into this publishing course -- so I'm not going to kill myself if I don't finish.
Plus, I really don't want to take a class this summer -- I'd like to lay back a little bit. Fuck it, a lot. I need one more seminar, and the only seminar offered first part of the summer is Milton. Gag. And first term of summer goes through June 29, and I have to be in New York on the 24th. And I'll have advance assignments for the CPC to do.
