Nov. 5th, 2002 01:16 pmI dropped the ball and didn't pay attention to any of the candidates, so I'm not voting today. I'm still getting it through my head that I live here. You know how it is when you visit someone in another state and the political billboards and TV commercials mean absolutely nothing to you? Yeah, that's how it's been for me over the past year or so. No excuse, I know, but that's how it is, and I'd rather cast no vote than a knee-jerk, uninformed one. So all the rest of you--get yer asses out there and vote them Republicans out!!! ;)
What do you think of George Carlin's statement that people who DON'T vote are the only ones who DO have a right to complain? His point is that by taking part in a fucked-up system, you endorse it, and the best way to voice your displeasure is not to participate in that system. I almost almost almost agree with that, and I guess the only thing that keeps me from fully buying into it is a hope that perhaps the system can get better if people work with it and for it.
I do tend to agree with George on most things, by the way. I'd vote for him if he ran for office--though of course if he ran for office I'd wonder what the fuck had gone wrong with him.
