Yeah, those were wicked! (Damn, there's that word.) That's worse than any snow. I remember seeing those trees freezing and just snapping all over the place. Christmas of what, '98? That was a big one. I remember having my truck parked on the street and thinking, man, I'd better go out and move it from under that tree. I was standing at the front door, putting my shoes on, and looking out at the truck, and WHAM!!! I saw this huge limb fall right across the bed of the pickup. Whole truck shook. And I stood there and laughed my ass off. "Did you SEE that? That fucker fell right on my truck!" But it didn't do any damage at all. If it had been a few feet further up, I'm sure it would have crushed my windshield or maybe even the cab. There were cars all down the street that were fucked up, but mine was fine. And I was driving around for weeks with that limb in my bed because I was too lazy to get it out. :)
I have a picture of my Grandfather standing under an arch of iced up branches after one of those. Yeah, I think ice beats out snow anytime, power lines were always down, real bs winter storms.
There's nothing like the joy of leaving your water dripping at night and waking up to find all the pipes frozen anyway (and maybe broken), either.
