Do you remember when you first got a VCR? It was AWESOME, man! You could record Letterman and watch it later! And VIDEOS! I used to record music videos! And remember those big-ass rigs that you had in school--the ones with the big levers and buttons and shit? You know, on the cart with the monster television! And you always wanted to be the one to go get the cart from the a/v room, and you had to be careful, because if that big-ass TV came off there it'd crush yer goddamn head!

My dad is so cool. One day my dad came home and gave me a Beta copy of Raiders of the Lost Ark. I was all happy and excited, but then I was like "But we don't have a VCR!", so my dad said to go tell my mom that we need to buy a VCR, otherwise my gift will go to waste. And that's how I got my very first VCR. Oh yeah, and since my parents were teachers, my very first VCR was identical to those bigass rigs from school.

I have dozens of tapes that are filled with music videos. When I'm home for the holidays, I think I'm gonna watch 'em all.

I got my first Atari cartridge before I got an Atari. It was a real bummer waiting around for Christmas to come and wondering if I could play the damned thing on a cassette player.

My dad had a Beta too! Those things rocked. My dad complained for years about "those big, clunky VHS tapes" before breaking down and making the switch.

I'm gonna bust out the videos soon too. I probably have hours and hours of MTV's "Headbangers Ball" from about 1986.

I still have my Beta and it works beautifully. It truly is the superior machine - and the little tapes are so cute!

My house was burgled a few years ago and the robbers took everything except the Beta. They were strange robbers though...they stole mix tapes from my room. Like crappy old cassette tapes. Weird.
