I'm not usually one of those "keep your hands off my fuckin' money" people, but today I am. I discovered that filing for an extension to do your taxes takes just about as much effort as actually doing them. But I wasn't quite sure about some of the stuff, so I just went ahead and filed for extensions. I never wait until the last minute to do taxes unless there's something weird that's going to make them difficult. Last year it was the two-state thing, and this year it's freelance money. This year it looks like I'm going to get $130 back from the feds and owe the state $100. And I have to go ahead and pay the state their money. Wasn't expecting that. At least I won't have to go to the post office after work like last year. That was a freakshow.

How did you end up getting a refund? I can't remember the last time I got one.

I think it's because I didn't claim any exemptions on my W-4 or whatever it is. I wanted to be sure that I wouldn't end up owing at the end of the year.
