I am freaking DYING for a Dayton St. Apizza, and it's closed this week! I had a pizza from there a couple of weeks ago, and it was the best pizza I've ever had. Just a couple of blocks from me! Very convenient except for this week.

Forgive me if I've posted this next part. I remember writing about this before, but I think I lost the post or something.

Do any of you New Havenites know what the deal is with the word "apizza"? Modern Apizza, Sally's Apizza, Dayton St. Apizza, etc. From searching Google it looks like it's mostly a New Haven thing. But no one says "apizza." They say "pizza" just like anywhere else. But you see "apizza" on all the signs. And the people I've asked about it never know. Maybe I should ask at one of the apizza places. Hmmmmmmmm. It's so crazy it just might work.

Dammit, I'm fixin' to get an apizza from SOMEWHERE, dammit.

update: hmmm, this page says a little about it.

Yeah, it's weird--I keep hearing this stereotypically heavy Italian accent saying, "aPIZza pie!"
