Nov. 3rd, 2003 09:46 pmSo the weekend was salvaged after all thanks to a rockin' wicked good time with
goreygalx at the KMFDM show in Providence. It's been quite a while since I listened to any KMFDM, but they were fucking AWESOME, even if it did take us a while to realize that the band we were watching was in fact KMFDM. We expected there to be a Pig set between Bile and KMFDM, but it turned out that Pig was playing with KMFDM. It was all a bit confusing, especially to me, who didn't realize at first that Pig and Bile were two acts, not one called Pig Bile. ;) And then you throw in the fact that there also exists a revolving-door industrial act called Pigface, and the whole deal was bumfuzzled! Anyway, whoever it was we saw last night put on a great show. :)
Opening act Bile was decent, but a little monotonous for me. The best part was watching their bass player, a Kerry King lookalike complete with bald head and spiked goatee, make rock-star poses. I spent much of their set trying to figure out whether the black stuff all over his body was hair or tattoos.
goreygalx informed me that they were in fact tattoos.
Got home and one of the first posts I saw was
mediajam's post saying how awesome KMFDM was. Small world! Where were you standing, Chuck? We were back by the bar.
Anyway, quite a fun night, and I greatly enjoyed hanging out with the super-terrific
goreygalx. If she weren't spoken for, I'd snap 'er up like THAT--though I guess she might have something to say about that. :) But it was good to hang out and see a good show, and I hope we can do it again soon.
edit: Oh, a weird note: the only other time I've been to Lupo's was last year, when
dangerpest and I went to see Les Claypool on Nov. 3, 2002. Yesterday was Nov. 2, 2003. Weird. So I guess I have a standing date at Lupo's for the first Sunday in November. I hope they schedule a cool show for that day next year; I'd hate to have to see Wang Chung or something just to keep my streak alive.
