Jan. 5th, 2004 12:42 pmMmmmm, hot tea with honey rules. I just wish I were enjoying it at home in bed rather than here at work. Oh well.
What did I find in my inbox today but a Christmas gift from the incomparable
buscemi! The Beast, former Iron Maiden singer Paul Di'anno's autobiography!!! How much does this rule, kids? A lot. A whole lot. Thanks so much,
buscemi--you're the best!!!

Damn, I feel bad about not sending out holiday cards and happys to LJ folks (or anyone else, for that matter). I'm a wretch.
I had a great time down south for the holidays. Had xmas in Chattanooga with Mom, John, Grandmother, and Aunt Jo. My uncle from Florida also came in for two nights, which was an unexpected surprise. We've always been really close with him and his family, but I hadn't seen any of them since before I moved to CT--must have been when my cousin Sarah got married in April 2001. I stayed in TN for a few days and then headed to Mississippi to see dad, who had some minor surgery last Monday. One procedure was for his left eardrum and should improve his hearing in that ear. The other was the removal of a growth from his upper chest, around the collarbone. They weren't quite sure what it was, but preliminary reports look like it's benign. They'd already done a biopsy that said as much, but I guess they can't be sure without some further tests. So we hope to get good news from that soon--fingers crossed.
Getting a taste of some warm weather kicked ass. It was 70 degrees in Starkville the day I left!
The drives down and back SUCKED. I drove the 900 miles to Chattanooga on the 14th and got in at like 1:30 Christmas morning. I'd planned to have a somewhat leisurely drive back and stop to meet
sivet for breakfast, but my late start Friday prevented that from coming off as planned. I left Starkville at about 3 p.m. Friday and finally settled for the night somewhere in Virginia about 11 hours later. I did make much better time Saturday and got back here at a decent hour. I'm gonna have to figure out a better way to travel, though. I like to drive because I like having my car, but goddamn that's a long drive. Maybe next time I'll fly and ask them to tow my car behind the plane or something. You think that'd work?
I was on a boiled peanuts kick when I was down home. Y'all ever had 'em?

Date: 2004-01-05 11:21 am (UTC)Hey, I didn't even know that book existed until I wandered around Amazon. Hee. I was going to buy you a Motorhead t-shirt, but I didn't know what size you took or which one(s) you had.

Date: 2004-01-05 03:33 pm (UTC)We'll have to try for a road odyssey, those 'drive till I get there' marathons were something to brag about, but I'm getting too long in the tooth to manage them anymore, particularly in bad weather.
Have I mentioned how I think the Northeast sucks for tolling you everywhere you go? You can't get out of here unless you've got at least a tank full of gas and twenty dollars in small bills and change.
