According to sitemeter.com, sixty-eight percent of the people who visit my website are looking for information on Horny Goat Weed.

By my estimation, the remainder is made up of high-school students on AOL who want me to formulate a thesis on Wise Blood for them.

I was searching through users by interest just to see if there was somebody else with a journal worth reading. The title of your webpage made me glance. And the fact that you have a picture of Molly's made me beyond happy.

The Dungeon was much better way back when.

Yeah, it really was... Of course, it's been about -- geez, has it been five years?!? -- since I've been there. It just wasn't the same as I'd remembered it -- I couldn't tell how much of that was because of the bar and how much because of me.
I have very fond memories of going there in the early 90s, though. I have an account I've been writing about one night I was there with a head full of acid -- I really need to finish that.

Can't beat Molly's, though. No bullshit whatsoever. :)

Molly's has certainly gotten "Cheersy" since Alvin died. Shortly after that (around '94?) the Dungeon's new owners left and the new people made the place pretty cheesy. It's still one of the more interesting places around. Definately not the sort of place I'd drop though.

Frightfully, I've probably talked to you in Molly's before. From 1989 through 1996 I spent at least 15% of my time in New Orleans even though I live in Texas, and almost all of those waking hours in Molly's or Kagan's. Molly's is still the pinnacle for reality, though. And it is my escape, given that I live in this hole.

Funny you mention Kagan's -- that was my other favorite bar in New Orleans. I liked to go in there about 5 or 6 in the morning. So, yeah, it is quite possible that we crossed paths. And I know what you mean about the escape. That town just has the greatest energy. I quit drinking and everything some time ago, but I can remember what it felt like to be in N.O. doing my thing, and it gives me that old excited feeling right in the gut.
