Well, I interviewed in Tuscaloosa, AL, which is about 90 miles from where I grew up in Mississippi. So yeah, Redneck Central. =)

My home is Burville, Virginny (that's Berryville, VA for those without an accent). I reckon you don't know that neck o' tha woods, although I really grew up in Paris, Virginny. But ain't nobody heard of that place, so I says Burville.

I was gonna say that I had heard of Paris, but I was thinking of Parrott, which REALLY ain't nobody never heard of. I lived for two yurs in Radford and Pulaski, so I know a little of ol' Virginny.

I just read all of your comments you received, and I gotta say it buddy, you are one lucky and much loved guy! People from all over the country want you to move by them and/or meet you in person. almost everyone! That has GOT to count for a whole lot right now. :) I'm glad, because you deserve the love, you're a fantastic person.

Yeah, I'll have to take stock and see what I really do want, I guess. It was sort of a fluke that I happened on the job listing and applied, but it did seem like a really good situation for me. But yeah, I'm gonna keep looking and trying as possible.

no move south for you . . . *yet*.

it's a shame it didn't work out this time, but perhaps something even better will soon present itself.

besides which, if you're not going yet I might actually get to meet you in person.

Indeed! We'll have to try to do that.

*hug* Those bastids don't know what they're missing out on.

But hey... they have publishing jobs in NC, too... ;)

My thoughts exactly. Hehe--actually I was just looking at a job listing for Oxford UP, which apparently has an office in Cary, NC? I don't even know where that is. But I gotta let my head stop spinning for a minute before I look at anything else, ya know?

I had a friend who worked in Oxford for a while & I've driven through there. It's about... an hour maybe from Raleigh, not a bad place at all. Roughly 2 hours from where I am now, I think. But yeah, I know what you mean about having to chill for a while.

Oh, I'm sorry, Chris. Maybe better opportunities lay ahead (lie ahead? no, it's lay ahead, right? ack.) Anyhoo - in the meantime, I'll just have to mail you barbeque to keep the home fires burning.

Now that'd be sweet. =) Just tonight I broke one of my grandmother's pecan pies out of the freezer, and it was awesome--so there is comfort to be had.

Notice how skillfully I avoided the lay/lie issue. I've never had a handle on that either. :)

I know which to use when, but the tenses mess me up.

In high school my least favorite English teacher used to tell us that "people don't lay," which would always cause a few giggles. He was just obnoxious - very old and very gay and very patriotic. He used to shout, "If you don't like my country, you can just GET OUT" while doing a very flambouant gesture towards the door. He made us cross stitch a scene from Huckleberry Finn for one assignment. He made no sense. My favorite memory of his class (besides having to write a letter to President Reagan thanking him for bombing Libya) was when he asked me the symbolism of the tree in Ethan Frome. I hadn't read that far and just started rambling away about something or other. He just looked at me dead serious and said, "Thank you, but I think I'll ask someone who actually read the book." Gah.

Little tangent. Pardon.

LOL That, dear, is why I have submissives. Makes it much easier. I am also bringing up a few friends from GA to help with the move, so I'm afraid too many hands may just get confusing. My phone for the first few days I'm up there will still be 404-273-4665, so give me a holler on the first or so.

I just had a Pace Salsa commercial flashback...

"Where's the rope?"

At least you got some fucking bbq while you were down there, and a damn fine picture in your duded up duds.

My Dad just said something to me yesterday that was particularly wise, and I'd forgotten how freaking smart he is. He said, "You never know where you're going to end up, but try to be happy where you are and know there's something for you to do there. We just have to go where we're led and make the best of it."

If you'd told me I'd be broke and suffering in Massachusetts ten years ago I'd have told you that you were just ape shit crazy. But here I am. And I keep trying to go home, and something keeps stopping me. Some days I think I'm really still in Bush, Louisiana, asleep in the fishing camp under that rattling air conditioner, having a long bad dream. Then I'll wake up and go get a moon pie at the truck stop in my bare feet and go watch TV and argue politics with my Daddy.

I love ya, bud. You're good people.
