Date: 2004-06-22 06:39 pm (UTC)In high school my least favorite English teacher used to tell us that "people don't lay," which would always cause a few giggles. He was just obnoxious - very old and very gay and very patriotic. He used to shout, "If you don't like my country, you can just GET OUT" while doing a very flambouant gesture towards the door. He made us cross stitch a scene from Huckleberry Finn for one assignment. He made no sense. My favorite memory of his class (besides having to write a letter to President Reagan thanking him for bombing Libya) was when he asked me the symbolism of the tree in Ethan Frome. I hadn't read that far and just started rambling away about something or other. He just looked at me dead serious and said, "Thank you, but I think I'll ask someone who actually read the book." Gah.
Little tangent. Pardon.

Date: 2004-06-21 06:50 pm (UTC)"Where's the rope?"
At least you got some fucking bbq while you were down there, and a damn fine picture in your duded up duds.
My Dad just said something to me yesterday that was particularly wise, and I'd forgotten how freaking smart he is. He said, "You never know where you're going to end up, but try to be happy where you are and know there's something for you to do there. We just have to go where we're led and make the best of it."
If you'd told me I'd be broke and suffering in Massachusetts ten years ago I'd have told you that you were just ape shit crazy. But here I am. And I keep trying to go home, and something keeps stopping me. Some days I think I'm really still in Bush, Louisiana, asleep in the fishing camp under that rattling air conditioner, having a long bad dream. Then I'll wake up and go get a moon pie at the truck stop in my bare feet and go watch TV and argue politics with my Daddy.
I love ya, bud. You're good people.
