LOL. I was just typing a post that said I was rooting for Mussina to finish out the perfect game, and right then Bellhorn doubled. Anyone who has me on his side is in deep, deep trouble.
For the record, I hate the Yankees with a passion and have adopted the Red Sox as my second team. (The Pittsburgh Pirates are my first. Yes, they're still in the league.) In the early '80s, my second was the California (now Anaheim) Angels. Then the Fred Lynn/Doug DeCinces/Bobby Grich crowd left, and I didn't really have a second for a long time. When I lived in Virginia for a couple of years in the mid-'90s, we got the Orioles every night on cable, so I picked them up, which wasn't hard because they had my favorite player, Rafael Palmeiro, who I've followed since I saw him hit like a madman at MSU's Dudy Noble Field from 1983-85. Yes, Dudy Noble.
I kinda lost touch with the Orioles when I moved back to Mississippi and their owner, Peter Angelos, ran the team into the ground by signing people like Albert Belle and letting people like Palmeiro and Mussina to get away. Palmeiro's back with them now, but ehhhh.
Anyway, living in New Haven, I have to take sides in the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry. We're right in the middle ground here, and it's kinda fun hearing the arguments on the bus and at the office. It wasn't a hard decision, as I've ALWAYS hated the Yankees, even back in their Steve Kemp/Roy Smalley suckage days. But me and the Red Sox, man, that's a bad combination. Curse of the Bambino + support from a guy whose primary team hasn't won in 25 years = bad news.
Holy shit. It's 8-5 all of a sudden. Maybe I should keep rooting for the Yankees so the Sox will win.

:blows kiss at brudder flea:
My mom has been a fan for sixty years. Every year they break her heart but she keeps coming back. She's a loyal sort, is Mom.

Date: 2004-10-13 05:58 am (UTC)It goes without saying (but I am, anyway) I am a staunch Yankee hater. Poopheads. I don't know why they have to win all the time.
Mussina's always reminded me of the Boo Radley type. He's gotten positively FAT since he left here. I love Palmeiro as much as anybody but I really hate that he did the Viagra ad. My favorite Oriole has always been my BJ Surhoff. It was better back when he cussed at his bat more, but I still love him. I got Brady's autograph in the parking lot, once. Man, those guys are a lot bigger than you think. They are huge. My mom (who is in her 70's) used to have Brady's underwear ad hanging on the fridge.
I wish we had a winning team.

Date: 2004-10-15 07:42 am (UTC)The O's are frustrating. They signed some good players for this year, and I heard some people saying they would contend, but they didn't sign any pitching! It's bad news when Sidney's the ace of your staff. He was god-awful this year.
I so want to go to Camden Yards sometime. Maybe I'll come down next season and we can catch a game. :) Just make sure you tell 'em to pick up Raffy's option.

Date: 2004-10-18 03:03 pm (UTC)WHY DON'T THEY GET GOOD PITCHERS? Yeah, that is bad news. I never did like Sidney, anyway.
C'mon down! Just don't be embarrassed when I am yelling (like a gurl) "BEEJ" at B.J. If he's still there.
