Groffenfleeger. Some spammer is using my domain name to send out a shitload of messages. I got a hundred or more delivery-failure notices in my inbox this morning. lhofcylcqoftal@chrisheller.net, jwhqps@chrisheller.net, zdpslpckigbypx@chrisheller.net, etc. And the "from" IP addresses are all over the map--I tracked some to Atlanta, Miami, and freaking Beijing. Anyone had this happen? Anything to be done about it?

edit: make that over 1,000

another edit: egad, that was before I checked my spam folder. It's at least 2,500 by now, and that's in the past 15 hours or so.

another edit once more: Over 900 of these are advertising a firm called Yap International. Exactly one of you will get a chuckle out of this.

I used to get that shit all the time because of my dsazine.com address. The first time it happened, I thought, "Who are all these people?" Then I checked the sender's info. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a whole lot that can be done. Maybe complain to the sender's ISP?

That's what I figured. :( And the senders seem to be from all sorts of ISPs, so I dunno what to do about that. It's driving me batshit!

I'm the one

Contact your ISP and your domain server to see if they can put a trace on it, the sooner the better. Ask them if they can do something about it; you don't want them coming after *you* for spamming, and they should have the technology and desire to stop it if possible.

If you have a p/w on your domain, go change it.

Yap?

Ugh. Pursuing some of that now. SMTP is completely fucked--there's absolutely no authentication that the sender is who he says he is. Kinda stupid, innit?

Oh, and "yap" is part of the secret voodoo twin language that [livejournal.com profile] thebelljar and I share. It roughly translates to "yes." =)

Thanks--I set up a filter on my client to send everything not for chris@chrisheller.net to another folder, but I definitely need to see about doing it at the server level. Does Inboxer work only on Outlook?
