Why are DJs considered very hip in some circles, yet cover bands are almost universally considered uncool?

No way. Cover bands are all the rage now. Especially cover bands that mix up one band with another, like Beatallica (Beatles and Metallica).

Err, oh yeah! But I was really talking about bands that do a whole lot of different bands, not tribute bands.
