Why do songs that I haven't heard recently pop in my head all of a sudden? And why do they fight one another? "You've lost that lovin' fifty-third and third, I'm tryin' to turn just another manic peel back the foreskin of liberty . . ." Gah.

I haven't been able to get to sleep lately because I can't think of a common name in the United States that's as long or longer than my first name. I like my name fine, but it takes forever to sign a check or a credit-card receipt. What names are longer than Christopher? I can't think of any. Alexander? A paltry nine letters. Poindexter? Only ten. Beauregard? Ten again. Who can come up with one? And don't gimme nothing hyphenated like Thelma-Hortense.

This morning I dreamed that I was in high-school journalism class. It was Wednesday, the day when we normally watched a video. (?!) But instead of putting in a tape, Mrs. Templeton handed me a telephone and dialed a number. Some girl answered and told me that she and her friend were tripping balls. I laughed and talked with her for a few minutes and finally closed with, "OK, talk to you later . . . Lover." I've no idea what that was all about.

ohmygosh, you just reminded me that in my dream last night a woman was telling me that i had no self-confidence as a kid because my name was so soft and difficult to pronounce. not that "angela" is terribly complex, but that "ng" combination really does act like a speedbump in the middle.

i have no idea why that was a part of my dream. but i did wake up pissed at my parents for not giving me a name with punch. hm.

Whoa, strange dream! I never thought of the "ng" as a roadblock before, but now, every time I see the name Angela, I'm gonna think angle-uh.
