There's nothing to make you realize that you should stop buying books and start making the way through your backlog like buying a new paperback and getting home only to realize that you already have an unread cloth edition of the same book that you bought at the same store not even a year ago.

I remember I went to visit a friend last year, and I kept finding duplicate copies of the same CDs. I asked her why, and she said, "I can't keep track of them all." Hee.

Ha! Yeah, for some reason I'm better about remembering CDs. (Sort of. I do happen to have two perfectly playable copies of Among the Living and two of Nothing's Shocking.) But I was rearranging some books tonight and realized that I have not one, not two, but THREE copies of Skinny Legs and All--one mass-market pbk and two trade pbks. And that's beside the two copies of Fortress of Solitude that were the subject of this post.

And then there are the books that I bought in paperback and then found later at used stores in cloth. I have several duplicates of that variety. :)

Time to put some stuff up on ebay or wherever, I guess. What sucks is that Amazon and half.com don't send checks anymore. I don't trust that electronic deposit shiz.

Yeah, my job does the same thing to me, hence all the unread books at home... :\

Nothing's Shocking rocks.

What was this book that looked so good you wanted it twice?

Heck yeah it does! That's one of those albums that you almost WANT to buy twice.

The book was Fortress of Solitude by Jonathan Lethem. I read his Motherless Brooklyn a couple of years ago and enjoyed it, so when I saw his next one, I picked it up. TWICE. In my defense, they changed the cover design for the paperback, so I didn't recognize it. :)
