When I started drinking coffee, I always killed it with a lot of sugar. Eventually, though, I got tired of fooling with it and started drinking it black. Almost everyone in my family drinks it black, and I think that most Southerners drink it black. I've noticed that a lot of people up here in Connecticutland use cream and sugar. The guy who prints our catalogues brings us coffee a lot, and I always have to elbow people out of the way when it arrives -- I just want to grab a cup, and they want to stand around mixing in various substances.

[Poll #22930]

Oh, and for the poll's purposes, sugar=Sweet 'n' Low=Equal. Any kind of sweetener.

I'm southern, and I have always taken it with tons of cream and sugar. When I was like TWO, my grandmother used to make me big breakfasts of scrambled eggs, bacon, toast and coffee with cream and sugar. :)

So much for my north/south theory. :) Those grandmother breakfasts are the best -- I long for those on Sunday mornings!

Lots of people in my family drink it black though. I just have a big sweet tooth. I can drink it without cream, but I have to have sugar.

I love those grandmother breakfasts too. My maternal grandmother used to make biscuits every single morning, from scratch. I mean, can you imagine? I'm lucky if I manage to pour a bowl of cereal in the morning.

I know! My maternal grandmother did the same thing, at least while my grandfather was still alive. That's like making bread every day! Now when she makes biscuits, she'll always say they're not quite up to par -- too much this or that -- because she's out of practice. :)
