wickedflea: (chicken neck)

Sure enough, I heard "Sweet Home Alabama" on the car radio when I went to get cigarettes just now. =) I've always kinda hated that song, but there's still something about it that hits me in the gut. I should dig up an old article I saw in the Oxford American a few years ago about the ambivalence "Sweet Home Alabama" inspires in many southerners.

...and oddly, KFC has chosen it as their new commercial music.
Great market research there...a song that Southerners are ambivelent about that's also about the wrong state.
Another thing that cracks me up about those commercials is the African American families enjoying fried chicken while that song is playing in the background.

I know! I've ranted about that very thing before. And Skynyrd was from Florida, so it's even more confused . . .

Right on. I'm sure you've heard Warren Zevon's "Play it All Night Long ." :) ("Play that dead band's song . . .")

I used to have a subscription to Oxford American. That was a good magazine. One of the few.
