OK, so I saw the Super Bowl show the other day and got to thinking about Prince, and I ended up looking on Usenet and downloading the Purple Rain DVD. Man. Why did I not remember how wretched that movie is? Apollonia's breastises must have distracted me. It's basically 8 Mile with much better music.

So what did y'all think of Prince's halftime show, anyhow? I thought he sounded great, but the performance kinda bugged the shit out of me because I hate medleys. And I really could have done without another version of "Proud Mary."

I thought it was awesome. But I still think Purple Rain is a great movie.

Yeah, Purple Rain is one of those movies that I'll always love, but upon seeing it again, I was just struck by how bad the acting is. I dunno. The musical sequences are great, though, and really that's all you need to get out of the movie.

That's sort of my take on that movie. It's like people saying Snakes on a Plane was awful and stupid. That was the point.

The thing about the Superbowl performance was that he sounded good. Nobody sounds good at the Superbowl. I think there has been some speculation about lip syncing, but it didn't look that way to me. And he got a stadium full of football fans to sing Purple Rain in the rain. He's a god.

Re: Proud Mary. If you can't do something better, or even as good as the definitive Tina Turner version, don't do it. Just stop. You'l lsuck by comparison no matter how well you do it. Please don't degrade yourself by trying.

Really, I'm a huge TT fan, but it's not possible to do that song better than she did. Ditto for Nutbush City Limits. Seger gave it a good try, but seriously, c'mon.

im not a fan of medleys either.
i thought the fact that they couldnt wipe the rain off their cameralenses was like "look how cool and live we are, we can deal with anything! look how prince is singing even through all this insane rain!" oh wait, you cant see. because there are fucking raindrops on the camera. STOP SWITCHING TO THAT CAMERA.
