I literally just shed a tear (a few of 'em, actually) upon learning that Kurt Vonnegut has died. He was a wonderful, lovely man. You lot out there, you got to READ A Man without a Country.

Well, shit.

Bleah. He's one of those you wonder if you want to live in a world without. :\

I think a world without a man who put crude illustrations of an anus into a story, is a world that has lost a lot.

Oh, that's sad. He had a good, long life, though.

I still laugh out loud when I read Breakfast of Champions.

I thought of you too.

waaaaaaah. :(

J.P. Donleavy better not kick the bucket any time soon. He's getting pretty old as well.

If you haven't read him, you best! Fairytale of New York is my favorite...but his Darcy Dancer series is awesome. And of course The Ginger Man is his most lauded.

I feel like such a bonehead because everyone is sad over him and I never read a single book of his. :\

Awww, it's OK. I'm shockingly ill-read--he just happens to be one of my few favorites.

when I lived in Boston, my friend sent him a book to sign and he sent it back signed, we were impressed and left it on the coffee table for months

Whoa, that's excellent! My friend has one of his signed screenprints that I'm insanely jealous of.
