Grandmother called and said Lonzie Jesus had to go to the vet yesterday cuz he was having trouble breathing, and it turns out he's got an upper respiratory infection. :( I could tell when I was over there at Thanksgiving that something wasn't quite right, because he kept having trouble with his eyes. I wish I'd told my dad to take him to the vet then. :\ But he got a shot and a week's worth of antibiotics, so I hope he's back up to snuff soon. I think we'll both be back in Tuscaloosa full-time in about a month, too. I miss the little bugger!

She said they gave them some kind of syringe to shoot it in his mouth with, so at least they don't have to get a pill down his throat. I hope he doesn't slice anyone. :(

I hope he's okay! But just so you know (and I'm an expert now because I've worked at an animal shelter for a whole 6 days now), upper respiratory infections are extremely common in cats, and if he gets some junk in his system in time, he'll be just fine. My boss says they have an outbreak every single fall/winter -- they just quarantine them from the other cats, give them meds and they're fine. :)

Awesome--thanks for putting my mind at ease. :) Do you think the eye boogers he's been having might have something to do with that?

Date: 2007-12-10 03:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] shlorp.livejournal.com
Absolutely. All our sickos have them -- it's just like when humans get a cold or flu -- chest AND head congestion, complete with sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and the occasional loose poopy. As long as he's getting antibiotics and isn't running around with other animals he should be okay. You should ask the vet to make sure the eye stuff is related just to be on the safe side -- he might prescribe some eye drops but that's mainly just if it's an eye infection.
