The Engine Stalls at AOL
A side note: the AOL editorial director spoke at the CPC last summer. He was a raging asshole. He kept asking us for ways to market the Jack Welch biography. "How do you get Jack Welch out there? How do you make people want to buy this book? Come on, people!" Jeez, who gives a shit? I mean, OK, certainly there are books out there like that (it's a biography of the General Electric CEO, ugh), but I don't think that anyone in the publishing course was particularly happy to think about the fact that they might have to deal with them one day. At least let us get into the business before you crush our dreams, dude. Oooh, weird -- the book came out on Sept. 11. So did Slayer's God Hates Us All. Not that either of these facts means anything at all.
