Copyediting question: in a magazine article about celebrity lawsuits, the author refers to "Lorenzo Lamas and playmate Shauna Sand." They're married (for the time being), and she's a former Playboy model. Shouldn't "playmate" be capitalized? Even if you don't really want to, otherwise it's misleading. I can't find anything in the NYT stylebook. I already marked it once and they haven't fixed it.

meh.

i'm the world's most obsessive tard when it comes to english, and i honestly don't think you should give a fuck about that particular case. mostly because there's probably not enough reference in the entire country (and england) to back up capitalizing it or not capitalizing it.

yes it is misleading because it makes you think she is his playmate, not a Playboy Playmate.

I vote that it does matter for this very reason!

why wouldn't you say, "...former Playboy Playmate Shauna Sand"

I think it's misleading any other way.

playmate, in that instance, is capitalized.
